CM Launched Vision Document on Food Secure Assam-2030

Guwahati, 16th October: ‘Assam faces frequent devastating floods that not only destroy lakhs of hectares of agricultural lands, but also make thousands of peoples landless and homeless. The devastating flood of this year destroyed 2.5 Lakhs hectares of crops as per the record of the state agriculture department and Government of Assam is committed to rehabilitate these lands and ensure ‘Food Security for All’; Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister of Assam, stated it in the ‘World Food Day Celebration’ event, organized by North East Institute of Advanced Studies (Northeast-IAS) in the state capital today.

Northeast-IAS launches incubator to support Startup India

Guwahati, November 12: ‘North East Institute of Advanced Studies, an institute for promoting leadership in the northeastern region launched today a business incubator centre in collaboration with Ekoenergy and Climate. Ekoenergy is a venture capital funding for funding social enterprises. While delivering the inaugural address, Dr. Sriparna B Baruah, a pioneer in introducing Management Education in North East India and presently heading the Centre for Industrial Extension at the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) highlighted that India is amongst the top five countries in the world in terms of startups, having more than 19,000 startups. The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) estimated that Indian startups would create 250,000 jobs by 2020, contributing to the 21% of the formal jobs sector of India.

Youth of Northeast Urged to join Civil Service-Mission-100

May 2, 2017: ‘’When it comes to civil services, northeast cuts a sorry figure. In 2014, there were only 13 students, who cleared the allied services; and in 2015, the result was less than 0.67% of the total results whereas, in Delhi and Rajasthan the percentage successful candidate was more than 100 candidates. This is a consistent result of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan for very simple reason- that is owing to having a well-structured training institutions for civil service in these states’’-Dr. Biren K Gohain, former Home Secretary, Government of Assam has stated in a roundtable discussion, held by the premier institute for Civil Service Training “North East Institute of Advanced Studies (Northeast-IAS). The roundtable discussion was attended by senior bureaucrats of Government of Assam, educationalists, senior journalists, representatives of the civic society and student community.

UNEMPLOYED EDUCATED YOUTH ARE DEMOGRAPHIC DIVIDENDS OF ASSAM

Guwahati, August 05, 2017 ‘’Assam has more than 15 lakh educated youths which are unemployed and accordioning to the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India (2016), Assam produces approximately 2.1 Lakh graduates each year. These are the demographic dividends and assets of Assam’’-it was reported in a roundtable discussion on the topic of ‘’Youth of Assam and Civil Services: A Visio”, organsied by the civil service training institute - the North-East Institute of Advanced Studies. While speaking in the roundtable discussion, Dr. Rohini Kumar Baurah, former Bureaucrat and Dr. Abu Naser Saied Ahmed, Founder Director of OKDISCD stated that Assam and Assamese people are struggling with numerous socio-political and economic issues, ranging from demographic transitions to lack of industrial growth; politics of identity crisis to poor agriculture productions, weak infrastructure development to distortion in higher education system. To tackle and mitigate these age-old problems of Assam, we need strong and able leadership at all level from (bottom to top) and particularly, we need a breed of Assamese bureaucrats, who could emphatically understand the problems and find solutions.
