IS was?

The Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi recently declared victory over the Islamic State saying the presence of the Islamic State has become nil and signaled an end to around more than three years of gruesome battle. The fight with the Iraqi forces saw the Iraqi forces first fleeing with their forces and then regrouping with the help of foreign back up to regain the lost territory. The Islamic State, during its peak presence, controlled almost about one-third of Iraq including the second largest city of Mosul. The Prime Minister Mr. Abadi came into government in 2014 and strategized a cautious approach with help from the United States and Iran to take over the IS. The troops first stopped the southward expansion of the militancy group and started offensive operations in the strategic pockets. Mr. Abadi now claimed that the Iraqi soldiers now gained control over the vast Iraq-Syria border after the IS fighters from all small border towns in Iraq. However, this claim is too simplistic to conclude. Iraq hasn’t yet been completely rid of the Islamic State threat for sure. In a divided country like Iraq, there are many pockets which include the IS presence in some way or the other. It is true that the militancy group has lost territory, but it is a fool’s view to think that the group doesn’t exist anymore. Mr. Abadi should see that the recurrence doesn’t occur again and create a strong united Iraq to avoid extremists.
