A Plan for Asia
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's political visit to East Asia was heightened by the renewal of quadrilateral security dialogues held between security officials of the countries of India, United States, Japan, and Australia. The decision was taken in Manila on the sidelines of the ASEAN led meetings. The significance of the Quad power lies in the future with Donald Trump reference to the region as 'Indo-Pacific'. This is a reflection that the region looks up to India in the midst of the increasing unsustainability of the present Asian strategy. The problem with this situation is with Delhi's capacity which fails to initiate and implement Delhi's plans to reality. India is far from lagging behind in the negotiations it has in regard to a proper ASEAN framework for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). However, without a robust plan to advance the economic integration with the East Asian region, the wide gap between the strategic promise of India and its performance would continue to develop and undermine the political credibility of Delhi.
